Elon Musk and His Playfulness
Yesterday Elon Musk sent his spacecraft into the galaxies, and as I watched it, I was initially stunned at the precise set-down of two booster rockets. Then as the commentary continued, I giggled because of Musk’s child-like playfulness in launching his red convertible into space. On the dashboard, he had written “Made by humans.” Later I saw an interview with him and he speculated that maybe in the future aliens would come across it and think it was something we Americans had worshipped at one time.
I was light-hearted as I watched this amazing immigrant inventor from South Africa, with millions of dollars tied up in the rocket, look relaxed. His playfulness touched me, and I thought back in my life and wondered if I’ve been far too serious over the years. I think the answer is yes. If I had it to do over again, I would have injected much more playfulness into my children’s lives…and into my own. It’s a trait overlooked far too often, yet it is a counter punch to the exhausting political environment we’re experiencing now. An antidote. A way to not take ourselves too seriously.
Surely I’m not too old to add some spice and play to my life now. Please say, “Yes.”
