A Look in the Mirror
In planning a trip to Thailand, I’ve read about their culture, and one author said, “Their approach to life is invariably positive, carefree and good-natured.” At this time in our culture, I feel such discord and disdain for others’ opinions. Today I read about a six year-old boy who wrote a will in case he was shot. Today I heard a journalist say that he was being threatened for writing facts that could easily be substantiated. Today I heard there is further movement from the White House to arm some teachers. When I go on Facebook, I am shocked at postings that are not only crude but hateful…and constant.
Each one of us contributes to the culture of our country. How we treat one another counts. The way we view others not in our tribe says much about us….our sense of acceptance and love. I was very disturbed to hear an ex-White House person who was touring Europe tout that people should wear racism as a badge of courage. No….no….no! Please no! Quite the reverse….we should look at our shame of slavery and own it and do everything we reverse that attitude.
Other countries look at our culture and must wonder about our collective anger and hate. How have we gotten here?
